Majority of MMOers interested in Star Trek Online

Developers of forthcoming game justify their existence with market survey–with less than earth-shaking results.

But really, how many of the respondents were just frustrated forum trolls excited that someone finally cared about their opinion?Agreed on the Fallout MMRPG (or even something along the lines of the old Gamma World setting)! As for Star Trek, it was inevitable, but let’s just hope it’s not some sort of endless “away team” thing where you run around shooting space rats with your phaser to get the phat lewts. “Sir, I retrieved the 15 Ferengi Necklaces you requested.” “Excellent, Ensign! Here’s your promotion!” And so on. Star Trek’s military-style chain of command, emphasis on diplomacy and lack of endless hours of running around on foot seem less suited to a MMRPG… though hey, it’s no more silly than doing that in Star Wars. I’ll certainly be watching to see what they do with it (assuming, of course, it’s ever actually released). I for one am jonesing for a good science fiction-based MMRPG, in the wake of the Imperator cancellation…(Edit: After reading the most recent…

Star Trek fans have a new website.

…CBS Consumer Products overhauled the Star Trek website in hopes of attracting new and old fans to what promises to be the ultimate online destination for all things Trek. “Star Trek fans deserve a one-stop destination for all their needs,” said Liz Kalodner, Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Consumer Products. “This re-launch allows us to bring the entire Star Trek community together in a single place and provide them with the very best in Star Trek news, content and merchandise.” The new Star Trek website comes as the 44-year-old science fiction series enjoys new life from the 2009 film ‘Star Trek’ by director J.J. Star Trek Online Early Impressions

Preview of the upcoming Star Trek Online MMORPG game

…One of many upcoming MMORPG games in 2009, Star Trek Online is possibly the most anticipated one. There are millions of die hard fans around the globe eager to see what Cryptic Studios has to offer, including myself. Here’s an early beta review posted on mmorpg.com. Enjoy!
Just how innovative is STO? What will make STO better and different? Ship customizations, vivid character creation, intense PvP on the ground and in space, possible PC/Console hybrid, where console and PC units can connect to the same sever - and explore together sounds like a good start to me.
To me, STO is going to go where no MMO has truly gone before. The level of customization that Cryptic is said to offer is staggering, but wait, haven’t we seen great customization before? Haven’t we all played Spore? Or perhaps another Cryptic game known as City of Heroes? There’s a difference here, and that is content. Yes, Spore isn’t an MMO, but let’s take a deeper look.
